The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning to not buy or use drugs marketed as a "healthy man alternative to the little blue pill" or "heathy man" or "the power pill" for erectile dysfunction (ED)advertised on broadcast and internet radio platforms.
These unapproved drugs were promoted on platforms such as iHeartRadio. Consumers have accessed these drugs without a prescription and the Agency confirmed they contain sildenafil 100mg, the active ingredient found in Viagra. This dosage strength is harmful for certain patients such as the elderly and patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
Sildenafil also can interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs (eg, nitroglycerin), which can result in dangerously low blood pressure. Nitrates are commonly taken among patients with diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or heart disease.
The manufacturers on the blister packs of these drugs show Acme Generics and Sun Pharma. The FDA also expressed concern that the seller may be distributing unapproved tadalafil, the generic version of Cialis.
